The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI Act) promotes a culture of openness throughout the public sector. It gives the public the right of access to information held by public authorities and requests public authorities to make that information available. The intention of the FOI Act is to increase visibility of the work of public bodies, to ensure that policy making processes are fair, democratic and open. The FOI Act gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public bodies though there are some exemptions and under certain circumstances there may be a charge for the information.

Publication scheme

The National College is committed to making the information it holds accessible to the public. To help us do this we have produced a publication scheme in line with the Information Commissioner’s model publication scheme for non-departmental public bodies. This is a structured, user-friendly guide to the information the College publishes. Some of the documents are available through links online without charge or restriction. Information is constantly being created and revised and, as a result, no publication scheme can ever be totally comprehensive. We will continue to monitor and review our publication scheme to ensure that it remains clear and effective. To comply with the FOI Act, the publication scheme sets out:

  • what information the College will make available, classified by type of information
  • how you can access the information

The classes of information are defined under the following headings:

  • Who we are and what we do
  • What we spend and how we spend it
  • What our priorities are and how we are doing
  • How we make decisions
  • Our policies and procedures
  • Lists and registers
  • The services we offer

Making a request

Requests should be made in writing (email is acceptable) and should state your name and contact address and, if possible, a contact telephone number, and should give precise details of the information you seek.
