Executive headship is becoming an integral feature of the school system in England. leaders who are working beyond one school to provide support and leadership to other schools. The purposes and accountabilities associated with being an executive head continue to develop and expand and there is no single definition of what constitutes the role.
This research is a national study focusing on the role, responsibilities and attributes of executive headship as it currently exists together with an exploration of how school context and other factors impact on the role. It also looks forward to how the role might develop in the context of the governments policies for schools.
