Even in today's society some people still dismiss issues of equality and diversity. However, diversity in the workplace is not only ethically right, but also vital to achieving effective and fit-for purpose leadership of our schools and children's centres.
This guide looks at the challenges of making our leadership pool more diverse and how to build equality into workforce planning. It focuses on issues of gender, ethnicity and disability, but can also be applied to discussions of sexual orientation, religion or age.
Looking at monitoring, recruitment, selection, training and succession planning, it provides a framework to embed equality and diversity in your leadership systems. It also offers a handy checklist of actions to be adopted and gives examples of best practice.
It is based on advice from leading equalities organisations and is part of a suite of leadership development materials provided by the National College, which are outlined within it.
