The research summarised here is a small scale, appreciative enquiry into the experiences of school leaders from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. It was designed to assist the College in increasing the participation of those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds in senior leadership positions, by generating knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by school leaders from BME backgrounds.

It provides an insight into the careers of school leaders from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. It explores the career histories and progression routes, of 20 school leaders and describes the challenges they've experienced throughout their leadership careers. The report also considers the impact of leadership development programmes on school leaders from BME backgrounds.
