This report explores the meaning and perceptions of 'distributed leadership' amongst headteachers and other staff. It identifies six models of distribution and offers clear messages and tools to enable schools to take a strategic, self-evaluating and self-improving approach to distributed leadership.

The findings were drawn from case studies involving 11 schools and look at issues such as school culture and beliefs and a typical day for a headteacher. The process of distributing leadership is also reviewed and presented using six categories.
