This report explores how networked leadership and practice can link together schools and communities in a common approach to improving life chances for children. It is based on research into leadership in seven community networks undertaking a wide range of activities, from providing family support to sharing professional knowledge.

This document acts as a tool that school leaders can read and learn from. The 'pause for thought' content allows the reader to stop and think about the opportunities and challenges of community leadership networks in their area.

Working with inclusive community networks can bring sustainable improvement to the community, the school and the children and young people who live in the locality and attend the school. All the school leaders in this project were challenged by this work, but positive about its benefits, knowing that changing the lives of children could not be done by the school in isolation.

Five key points to success with community leadership networks are outlined in the conclusion of the report.
