This summary research report presents the findings of a study into how leaders of extended schools in different areas have interpreted Every Child Matters (ECM) and adapted it to their own context. It considers whether the socio-economic level of the local community has an impact on the school's response to ECM.
Six extended schools (two primaries, three secondaries and one special school) were selected for in-depth case-study work. One of the schools had a children's centre on-site and one of them operated within a cluster of schools.
