This report explores how educators in a variety of settings are engaging with their local communities to improve outcomes for young people.
It considers the role of education in creating 'public value' â which encompasses areas including diversity, social harmony, community participation and community cohesion â and identifies the five tasks which underpin leadership for public value.
The report starts by locating itself inside the current, national debate about the nature and purpose of the public education service. It goes on to describe the work that educators from a variety of setting are doing to develop their social contract with pupils and families as a platform to enhance the strength of the local community and to improve outcomes for young people.
It introduces and explains the phrase 'public value' and identifies some familiar, traditional threads running through the work that educators are undertaking. Finally, it draws some summarising conclusions, including a description of the five core tasks in which educational leaders who create public value are successful.
