- Within-school variation is the difference in pupil achievement between teacher and year group in primary schools and by year group and department in secondary schools. Using this guide school leaders will be able to identify their own within-school variation, what measures they might use to tackle it, and how they might measure success. It may be of particular interest for those secondary schools with weaker English or maths departments. This project also links with the five outcomes described in Every Child Matters and the five components of personalised learning.
