This guide examines what we know about targeting recruitment for headteachers. It is aimed at people who work across groups of schools in local authorities, dioceses and other local partnerships to secure enough high-calibre headteachers. It looks at the perceived attractions and barriers to headship amongst existing school leaders, differences in the way male and female school leaders perceive headship and the low number of minority ethnic candidates for headship. It also asks whether we are overlooking good candidates because of their career path.
