Outlines the case that there are four social factors influencing educational success or failure: quality of family life; the level of wealth or poverty; the level of social capital in the community and the social class of the family. When these factors are all positive then schooling will tend to work and personal and social success is much more likely. However, if the factors are negative, then success is far less likely and dysfunctionality is probable.
