Finding top-quality leaders for the future is at the forefront of much of the development work done in schools today. To support this effort, the National College has created a framework of action for succession, which highlights key principles, practical steps and tools to help you. This section includes a wealth of materials to be used in school to support the development of aspiring leaders.
It features a selection of tools in three areas. It highlights the importance of strategic planning of change by presenting a leadership glossary, some blueprint agendas and schedules, and guidance on creating a communication plan.
It has a number of resources focused more directly on the role of leadership, including creating job descriptions, forming a framework for leadership roles and characteristics, and providing a leadership assessment report. Finally it helps leaders gain an insight into the views of staff with a card sorting exercise and perceptions survey.
