This document takes excerpts from a conversation held in January 2006 in which David Jackson, Director of the Networked Learning Communities (NLC) programme and Madeline Church, Network Co-ordinator and action researcher, reflect on how networks work across, around and within standard structures.
It refers to some of the key theory and thinking at the time, including the three fields of knowledge (what is known, what we know and new knowledge), and picks out some of the emerging lessons from the programme which, according to external evaluation, helped raise learning, achievement and results for pupils.
Particularly relevant to the National College's work leading the development of 'local solutions' for school improvement is the recognition that successful collaborations are founded on shared values and build trust.
