One of the key aims of education is to prepare children for the world that lies ahead of them. Given this, the importance of good information, advice and guidance in careers education is clear. Supporting students to make the right choices and helping them to succeed both in education and beyond has an enormous impact on their life chances.

This is a report on a study carried out to identify good leadership approaches to the delivery of careers education in secondary schools across England.

It identifies common themes and shows good practice from all the schools, before pulling all the information together to provide a model that other schools could adopt.

The report concludes by drawing out important lessons for leaders, which include a series of key questions to help assess your current information, advice and guidance provision, and identify simple steps to improve it.

Illustrating the importance of good advice and guidance, this report shows how it can become a core element of your services for children.
