Leading the change: implementing the new secondary curriculum

The leadership of change is one of the hardest challenges facing school leaders. There are a number of models that can be drawn upon to guide us through the ever shifting landscape of change. This report brings together examples of these models, and provides guidance on how to apply them in implementing the new secondary curriculum.

A number of schools have demonstrated how Kotter's advice in particular can be put into practice. Their experiences throughout the process of reshaping their 11-19 curriculum are recorded in this report to help other school leaders follow on the journey. Three key principles are identified:

  • creating a climate for change
  • engaging and enabling the whole organisation
  • implementing and sustaining change
