The school improvement planning framework: its impact on leadership and ECM in six case study schools

The school improvement planning framework (SIPF) is a suite of tools and techniques that supports local authorities and school leaders to improve their planning and strategic thinking. This set of case studies explores how different schools have made use of the framework, and what the impact has been.

The framework prioritises the needs of children and families in their local context, with the overall aim of improving their wellbeing and attainment. The case studies consist of one special, three primary and two special schools. All of whom had recently used aspects of the framework that met their needs at the time. The benefits to each school are explored in depth in the report, but key benefits include:

  • widening the range of participation to include parents, pupils and external partners
  • highlighting both strengths and weaknesses to be openly discussed
  • greater distributed leadership
