Diploma of School Business Management

Diploma of School Business Management

The Diploma of School Business Management (DSBM) is for the school business manager (SBM) who is working as a member of or closely with the senior leadership team (SLT). It focuses on the role that the SBM can play in determining the strategic direction of their school.

DSBM is a world-leading programme that supports school leadership. It is designed to develop knowledge and understanding to enable participants to explore and develop their own management and leadership capabilities.

Key facts

  • The programme is designed at a level higher than the Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM).
  • It has a broad equivalence to National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5; ie the second year of a first degree and is externally accredited by the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM).
  • DSBM is accessible to people with alternative professional backgrounds such as industry and other public sector organisations.

Duration

Up to12 months, depending on your personal circumstances and learning style.

Delivery method

DSBM involves a range of learning methods, including six days of residential face-to-face sessions, e-learning modules, case studies, school-based projects and private study.

Who can apply?

School business managers who are working as a member of or closely with the SLT.

Next application round

The application round for DSBM Cohort 13, commencing October 2010 is now open.

  • The closing date for aspiring applications has now passed.
  • The closing date for internal applications (for Accreditations of Prior Experience and Learning, APEL) is Wednesday 8 September 2010.
  • The closing date for internal applications (for non-APEL) is Wednesday 15 September 2010.

Financial contribution notice

The National College is committed to ensuring that prospective participants on programmes are always provided with advance notice of any planned changes associated with costs. This notice advises prospective participants that from 23 April 2011 that for all CSBM and DSBM cohorts commencing from that date a financial contribution will be required. We are introducing this following a reduction in funding but also to allow more participants to complete the programme.

In the case of Aspiring SBM participants this contribution will be required by the individual. For school based applicants we expect the contribution to be paid through their school. Whilst the contribution level is yet to be fully confirmed, we expect it to be in the region of £200-£300, a small percentage of the total cost. Small schools will remain exempt from this fee in line with college protocol.

This update simply serves as early warning of our plans. Further information will be made available when the relevant application rounds open.

We will also be reviewing contribution arrangements for our higher level programmes, ADSBM and SBD (School Business Director). Further guidance will be provided in due course along with the necessary notice.
