The difference the National College is making

The National College’s work with leaders of schools, early years settings and children’s services is achieving significant results. Below are our latest findings:
- Since the College opened in the year 2000, over 150,000 leaders have benefited from our leadership development programmes.
- Schools that are engaged with National College leadership development programmes achieve faster rates of improvement in their exam results:
- Key Stage 2 results of schools that have engaged with at least one of our professional development programmes increased by 3.8 per cent between 2006-10, compared with 3.5 per cent in schools that had not engaged.
- Key Stage 4 results of engaged schools increased by 10.6 per cent between 2006-10, compared with the 9.2 per cent improvement of schools that had not engaged.
- Primary schools supported by National Leaders of Education (NLEs) between 2008-10 Key Stage 2 results rose by 7.9 per cent while the results of those who had not been supported remained stable.
- Secondary schools supported by NLEs between 2008-10 improved their GCSE results by nearly twice that compared to those who had not received this support.
- The National Support Schools led by our NLEs have continued to improve their own results while also supporting improvement in other schools.
- Schools that are led by National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) graduates are more likely to improve their exam results and improve their Ofsted inspection ratings, and come out of special measures more quickly than those not led by an NPQH graduate.
- National College qualified school business managers have created over £300 million of value for schools between 2003 and 2009 by improving buying efficiency, generating income and saving headteachers time.
