Leading governors: regional training workshops

The College presented a series of nine regional training workshops throughout February and March 2012 to support our chairs of governors leadership development offer.

These free workshops were developed to provide delegates with:

  • personal professional development in regards to the importance of school governance in the current and future educational landscapesan
  • overview of the National College's new leadership development training offer for chairs of governors
  • an opportunity to trial and challenge this new training offer

They were also open to headteachers, co-ordinators of governor services, local authorities and diocese leaders.

What did the workshops include?

  • 'Governance is the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented)': a session on what good governance looks like in schools and academies.
  • ‘Governance in the future educational landscape’: an interactive session with guest speaker Robert Hill, national government policy advisor and international educational speaker and author of Chain reactions: a thinkpiece on the development of chains of schools in the English school system.
  • 'How could your school benefit from working with a chair from another school? How could you contribute to the improvement of another school?': a session on the role and contribution of the national leaders of governance.
  • 'How can the College support you in your role?': a session on our leadership development training offer for chairs.

A video of the final workshop, held at the College’s Learning and Conference Centre in Nottingham, will be available shortly.
