Teaching schools and NPQH regional events
The Schools White Paper - The Importance of Teaching, published in November 2010, set out a range of proposals for improving the quality of teaching and enabling schools to drive their own improvement. It asks the National College to lead on a number of areas. As we begin to shape these new areas it is critical that we engage with school leaders to inform our approach.
The College is running a series of activities to give you an opportunity to find out more about these developments and – critically – to share your views on how they might work in practice. The first two areas we are focusing on are:
- designation of teaching schools – outstanding schools that will work in partnership with other schools to provide high-quality teacher training, professional development and school-to-school support. The first teaching schools will be designated in September of this year.
- review and redesign of the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) – the new qualification should be available early in 2012.
Regional information and training events
We recently ran a series of free, half-day events, held in schools across the country, that focused on how teaching schools might operate in practice and explored the key issues impacting on the redesign of NPQH. The presentation slides from these events are now available.
