Equality impact assessments

An equality impact assessment is a tool to help the National College identify the potential impact of our policies, services and functions on all those who engage with us. They can help to:

  • provide and deliver excellent services, by making sure that they reflect the needs of our partners and stakeholders
  • identify if a service or policy is discriminating against a particular group
  • ensure that the service we provide fulfils the requirements of anti-discrimination and equalities legislation

The assessments cover our work as an employer, provider and commissioner and are key to our complying with the legal requirements of the Equality Duties and Equalities bill, in all our policies and practices.

When an equality impact assessment identifies a negative impact or missed opportunity to promote equal opportunities, the College must look at the need to modify the policy or practice.

Equality impact assessments are not just about compliance or finding problems, they help us identify changes that will improve the service the College provides.
