Schools white paper

The National College is to develop a national programme of support for schools undergoing change.

The National College is supporting schools on new forms of school leadership and governance and our recent publication, School Leadership Today, highlights how much school leadership has changed over the past decade.

We are therefore very pleased to have been asked to develop a leadership and partnership national support programme, through which we will provide support to schools, local authorities and governing bodies to manage the changes required of the education system to deliver the vision of the recent white paper Your child, your schools, our future. This programme recognises and builds on our extensive work looking at the wide range of different models of leadership and governance which are now emerging across the school system.

We look forward to building on our own extensive  work in this area by continuing to work with schools and local authorities who are demonstrating good practice.

The continuing focus on the Every Child Matters agenda, the well-being indicators in the new Ofsted inspection framework and the renewed focus on special educational needs and disability will all require schools and school leaders to ensure they have regular engagement with and access to wider children’s services. Our ongoing work with school leaders and our developing work with directors of children’s services through our extended remit mean that the National College is in a strong position to ensure that schools and children’s services leaders each have a good understanding of their relative roles and responsibilities in these challenging areas.
