As National College Chief Executive, Steve Munby’s role is to set the College’s strategic direction. He was formerly Director of Education and Lifelong Learning at Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, where his work was widely commended. In 1989 he took up a post at Oldham Borough Council as an inspector within the Education Department. In Oldham, he went on to manage the Advisory Service before moving to Blackburn with Darwen Local Education Authority as Assistant Director in 1997.

Toby Salt, Deputy Chief Executive, National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services

Deputy Chief Executive, National College

Toby is responsible for the National College’s primary and secondary strategic initiatives and marketing and communications. He was formerly the executive head of a federation involving three schools. He has also been a director at the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Innovation Unit. Toby was a founder member of the College’s governing council and provides specialist advice to ministers. He has worked across all age phases and in all types of educational provision. He has held leadership positions within local authorities and worked as a manager within social care.

Joe Simpson
Mountaineer and author

Joe Simpson became the world’s best known mountaineer through his best selling book, Touching the Void, and the BAFTA winning film of the same name. The story of his amazing survival, having shattered his leg and been left for dead in a crevasse high in the Andes, has been inspiring corporate audiences across the world. Joe has continued to climb to a high standard, last year establishing a new route on Mera in the Himalaya.

Ben Walden

Ben Walden
Senior Associate, Olivier Mythodrama Associates

Ben Walden is Senior Associate at Olivier Mythodrama, a creative consultant and workshop leader. Playing many leading roles in London’s West End theatres and on television, he was a member of the inaugural company at Shakespeare’s Globe and performed in Henry V and Julius Caesar. He has also led masterclasses for Shakespeare’s Globe Education Centre. Ben is founder of sister company Contender Charlie, working primarily with pupils and teachers, using the power of storytelling and mythology to enhance and inspire creative learning.
