SBM workshop: How to get the most out of your school business manager

This workshop focuses on the benefits that can be gained through the employment or effective deployment of a school business manager (SBM), either by an individual school or through a cluster arrangement.

The aims of the workshop are to:

  • raise awareness of the role of the SBM and best practice in school business management
  • develop your knowledge and understanding of the technical functions that SBMs carry out in schools
  • develop your understanding of the contribution an effective SBM can make to the strategic development of a school
  • provide information on the outcome of research into the impact of employing an SBM on individual schools and clusters of schools
  • raise awareness of the opportunities for sharing SBM provision through cluster arrangements

Who can apply?

The workshop is targeted largely at school leaders who are considering:

  • employing an SBM or accessing the services of an SBM on a full or part-time basis
  • how best to reconfigure and develop their existing staffing arrangements in order to provide a more effective business function
  • the potential benefits to be gained from sharing SBM provision through a cluster arrangement

What’s involved?

The workshop consists of four sessions, each being delivered at a half day face-to-face event. There is no assessment, however certificates will be awarded.
