The National College contributes to Education Conference for Principals in Trentino, Italy

April 2012
Sylvia Campbell from the National College was recently invited to attend and speak at a regional education conference, specifically for principals, in the province of Trentino, Italy. Sylvia contributed information on the work of the College and the importance of peer-to-peer support structures alongside leadership development programme provision. A Memorandum of Understanding between the National College and the Teacher Training Centre in Rovereto, Trentino was signed by Sylvia Campbell and Dr. Luciano Covi of the Teacher Training Centre. This memorandum highlights continued partnership development between both organisations to benefit school leadership development, both in England and Trentino. The National College is continuing to liaise with the Teacher Training Centre in Rovereto to support leadership development opportunities, as well as to benefit from shared learning.
West Lothian Council visits the National College
April 2012
The deputy chief executive from West Lothian Council, her senior education officer team and a representative from the Scottish government visited the College in April. The purpose of their visit was to consider how they can look at applying some of the College’s approaches within West Lothian to drive improvement across their schools.
National College hosts visit from the Western Australia Primary Principals Associate (WAPPA)
April 2012
In April, 15 school principals from Western Australia visited the College for two days. The visit included presentations to the group about the College’s work; primary school leadership, online learning, international leadership research and membership. The group also shared, with College staff, information about their networks and online connections.

Delegation from Japan visits the College
March 2012
A group of 12 delegates from Japan’s Educational Network Inc. (a Japanese consulting company which arranges leadership training for school leaders from private schools), visited the College on Monday 26 March to gain a greater understanding of the role of leadership development and strategies for school improvements. The itinerary also included a visit to The Green School in London the following day.
College hosts delegation from Taiwan
March 2012
In March the international unit hosted a visit of eight delegates from Taiwan. The group visited the College in order to gain a greater understanding of the work of school leadership development and peer-to-peer support structures. They received presentations from College directors and senior managers on our leadership development programmes; the role of national leaders of education and teaching schools as well as online and distance learning.
Indian Joint Secretary for School Education visits the National College
March 2012
Ms Radha Chauhan, Joint Secretary for School Education, India, visited the College in March to continue discussions with the international unit and Ministry HRD in India. Ms Chauhan met with Chief Executive, Steve Munby and Executive Director, Maggie Farrar as well as having fruitful meetings with Jonathan Dale, International Business Unit Managing Director.
Leadership training for delegation from Italy

The College delivered leadership training to 20 delegates from the Centro per la formazione continua e l'aggiornamento del personale insegnante, Rovereto, Italy. The purpose of the visit was to understand school improvement. This was explored through leadership development in both programmes and peer-to-peer support systems, what school improvement strategies have worked in the English system and why. The three day visit included school visits and presentations from College directors and senior managers.

College hosts a visit from Iraq delegation
March 2012
A delegation from Iraq visited the National College as part of a three year education programme which aims to support improvement in the quality of education in Iraq. The group gained a greater understanding of our school leadership standards and the role of headteachers and senior leaders in England, as well as the supporting of other schools in their leadership development regionally.
Delegation from Canada visits the National College
March 2012
Five representatives from the Manitoba Rural Learning Consortium visited the College in March and met with directors and senior managers during their two day visit. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the role of professional development in school improvement; improving outcomes for schools and young people and peer-to-peer support structures/networks. The group also visited one secondary and one primary school in the area and had the opportunity to investigate school improvement strategies, classroom activities and speak to staff and students.
National College directors address study tour groups from Norway
February 2012
Directors Di Barnes and Andy Buck recently addressed two study tour groups from Norway on the subject of national leaders of education and school-to-school support. The groups were in the UK as part of their Norwegian Masters Degree in School Leadership.
South Australian Department for Education and Child Development visit the College
February 2012
The international unit hosted a two-day visit to the College for representatives from the South Australian Department of Education and Child Development. The visit provided the delegation with a greater understanding of the leader preparation and leadership development programmes of the National College; and the role of schools in developing leader preparation both in their own schools, as well as supporting other schools in their leadership development regionally. The agenda included various presentations from College directors and senior managers.
Japan
February 2012
Mr. Yoshiaki Okamoto, representing the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, visited the College in February. Mr Okamoto is carrying out research to evaluate organisations similar to the Japanese Incorporated Administrative Agencies (IAAs) to identify issues and points for improvement within the current evaluation of the Japanese Independent Administrative Institutions.
