Distributed leadership: making it happen
The following three activities can be found in the Distributed leadership action pack. You will also need the distributed leadership self-evaulation questionnaire and the HayGroup report.
Activity 1
Ways of Distributing Leadership.
This activity can be used to enable staff groups to reflect together on different leadership styles and the application of different leadership styles in their particular setting. The quotes are extracts from interviews with a range of school staff responding to questions about distributed leadership.
Activity 2
The stages of distributed leadership.
The purpose of this exercise is to focus on the stages of distributed leadership described in the accompanying report by the HayGroup and to decide both where your school is now and where you would like it to be.
Activity 3
The culture sort.
This card sort replicates the culture analysis tool used during the HayGroup research study. It will help you involve a wide cross-section of the staff in thinking about current culture, their aspirations and the steps required to build a bridge between the two.
Activity 4
Where teachers can lead - ILERN activity. You'll need to read both the Where teachers can lead thinkpiece and the relevant section in Time to think.
The thinkpiece and activity explore how teachers should be encouraged to discuss their teaching methods in order to develop as leaders form the context of their classroom right through to their wider position in the school and even the community.
