Judith Bennett is the former chair of the National Governors' Association (NGA). In this video, she considers the important role played by governors in the leadership and management of schools, in particular, in the appointment of a headteacher.

A secondary school teacher, Judith left teaching in 1993 to work in publishing. She became a primary school governor in the same year, becoming more and more involved with governance work locally and nationally. She served as NGA chair between April 2006 and December 2008, and now serves as a NGA General Director.
