What are cluster co-ordinators?
- Cluster co-ordinators carry out a range of different functions within clusters – both operationally and strategically.
- Cluster co-ordinators work across the whole cluster of schools/settings, sometimes employed and/or based in a fund-holding school, and sometimes employed by the local authority.
- Cluster co-ordinators are usually responsible for co-ordinating extended services provision for the children and families served by the cluster of schools. This often includes out-of-hours childcare/activities and may also include a range of family liaison roles and linking with other children and family service providers.
What emerged from the project?
- Cluster co-ordinators are most effective when they have a strong strategic, as well as operational, role.
- Job descriptions reflect the co-ordinators' wide-ranging roles.
- Effective cluster co-ordinators are networkers: they are adept at building trusting relationships with schools and communities.
