This ground-breaking programme is for talented and ambitious individuals who are determined to become headteachers in as little as four years.
There are two pathways through the programme.
Tomorrow's Heads
Tomorrow's Heads is for teachers and non-teaching professionals who are determined to become a headteacher in a primary, secondary or special school in England.
Future Leaders
Future Leaders is targeted at current or former teachers who wish to lead a challenging urban secondary school in London, the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, Bristol, or the South Coast.
Is the programme for you?
Accelerate to Headship is open to you if you’re:
- a teacher without leadership experience but with a lot of drive, energy and the potential to become an outstanding school leader
- a former teacher looking to come back to school after a period developing your career in other management or leadership roles
- a non-teaching professional with strong leadership or management experience, the ability to learn quickly and a commitment to making a difference.
If you're passionate about changing children’s lives for the better, try our online self-assessment to help you decide if this is right for you.
You can also find out more about the type of person we’re looking for in our competency guide.
If you’re not a teacher
If you're not a qualified teacher, you’ll need at least two years’ management experience to take part in Tomorrow’s Heads.
We also want people who have experience of working with children, so would really like to hear from you if you’ve been involved in a school before, perhaps as a business manager or governor, or have worked in children’s services.
We can help you decide if you’ve got the right experience. Simply email us at ath@nationalcollege.org.uk or speak to one of our advisers on 0845 609 0009.
You can also find out about becoming a qualified teacher from the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) on 0845 6000 991 or at the TDA website.
