Advanced Diploma of School Business Management

Advanced Diploma of School Business Management

The Advanced Diploma of School Business Management (ADSBM) supports the professional learning of experienced school business managers (SBMs). It is offered as part of the National College’s suite of school business management programmes and builds on the already very successful Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM) and Diploma of School Business Management (DSBM).

The advanced diploma will help school business managers to make enhanced contributions in increasingly complex organisational settings.

Key facts

  • ADSBM enables participants to extend their knowledge and understanding of the changing school business manager's role within the context of global economic and social trends, national education and welfare policies, and local developments in the organisation and delivery of services to children and young people.
  • Participants will also improve their research skills to understand the school as an organisation and critically evaluate its adaptation to the changing educational environment of the 21st century.
  • Professional skills developed include: performance management, programme management, strategic financial management, organisational transformation and change management.

Duration

The programme takes approximately 12 months to complete.

Delivery method

ADSBM is delivered via a variety of face-to-face residential sessions, online interactive materials, guided and independent research activities and online communities.

Who can apply?

Experienced school business managers and suitably experienced individuals currently operating outside of the education sector, who are specifically wishing to enter the school business management profession.

Next application round

The application round for cohort 3 and 4 is now open.

Financial contribution notice

The National College is committed to ensuring that prospective participants on programmes are  always provided with advance notice of any planned changes associated with costs. This notice advises prospective participants that from 23 April 2011 that for all CSBM and DSBM cohorts commencing from that date a financial contribution will be required. We are introducing this following a reduction in funding but also to allow more participants to complete the programme.

In the case of Aspiring SBM participants this contribution will be required by the individual. For school based applicants we expect the contribution to be paid through their school. Whilst the contribution level is yet to be fully confirmed, we expect it to be in the region of £200-£300, a small percentage of the total cost. Small schools will remain exempt from this fee in line with college protocol.

This update simply serves as early warning of our plans. Further information will be made available when the relevant application rounds open.

We will also be reviewing contribution arrangements for our higher level programmes, ADSBM and SBD (School Business Director). Further guidance will be provided in due course along with the necessary notice.
