Who is ADSBM for?
The Advanced Diploma of School Business Management (ADSBM) is open to experienced school business managers (SBMs) who are working as a member of the senior leadership team (SLT), or those with experience equivalent to this.
We recommend that you complete the Diploma of School Business Management first, although we do welcome applications from those who would like to proceed straight to the ADSBM. You will however be asked to provide further information about your professional and academic background as part of your application.
There are three types of applicants.
Applicants with school business manager experience (internal)
As an applicant with SBM experience you will either be:
- employed as an SBM or bursar within a state-maintained school, and be a member of the senior leadership team (SLT)
- working for a local authority or the Department for Education, with SBM responsibilities at SLT level, and a school identified at which you can carry out work-based study
Please review the selection criteria for applicants with SBM experience before applying.
Applicants not working in a school (aspiring)
Applicants in this category must have the relevant level of experience and must either be:
- seeking work as an SBM within a state-maintained school and not currently working in a school
- employed in the private sector or other non-education sector
- employed by a local authority, but not working in a school support role and not have access to a support school
- currently unemployed or are undertaking voluntary work (this also applies to school governors)
Please review the selection criteria for applicants not working in a school before applying.
Independent applicants
As an independent applicant you will be a current SBM or equivalent, with the relevant level of experience, working in either:
- an independent school
- a further education college
- a university
- outside of England, with an English school identified at which you may carry out work-based study
Independent applicants are able to apply but will not be eligible for government-funded places.
Please review the selection criteria for independent applicants before applying.
