Who is the Associate Headteacher Programme for?
In order to be eligible for the Associate Headteacher Programme, it is necessary that the associate headteacher:
- has completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
- has been a deputy headteacher (or in some circumstances in the primary sector an assistant headteacher) for at least two years and has a good track record in leadership in his or her own school
- is committed to working with pupils in a challenging environment
- is interested in becoming a headteacher in a school in a challenging environment in the near future
- has the potential to be appointed as a substantive headteacher within 12-18 months
- is committed to ongoing professional development and learning
- has the support of his or her current school’s headteacher and governing body to engage in this programme
