Costs of DSBM
Financial contribution notice
The National College is committed to ensuring that prospective participants on programmes are always provided with advance notice of any planned changes associated with costs. This notice advises prospective participants that from 23 April 2011 that for all CSBM and DSBM cohorts commencing from that date a financial contribution will be required. We are introducing this following a reduction in funding but also to allow more participants to complete the programme.
In the case of Aspiring SBM participants this contribution will be required by the individual. For school based applicants we expect the contribution to be paid through their school. Whilst the contribution level is yet to be fully confirmed, we expect it to be in the region of £200-£300, a small percentage of the total cost. Small schools will remain exempt from this fee in line with college protocol.
This update simply serves as early warning of our plans. Further information will be made available when the relevant application rounds open.
We will also be reviewing contribution arrangements for our higher level programmes, ADSBM and SBD (School Business Director). Further guidance will be provided in due course along with the necessary notice.
Costs for the Diploma of School Business Management (DSBM) depend on your circumstances. Details can be found in the following table:
| Participant's circumstances | Funding category |
|---|---|
| Working within a state-funded school in England | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Working within an independent school | You will be invoiced for the programme (current charges: £3,100 for the national DSBM programme and £2,100 for local DSBM programme) |
| Working in a school operating outside the English system (includes Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man) | You will be invoiced for the programme (current charges £3,100 for the national DSBM programme and £2,100 for local DSBM programme) and you will need to be able to meet the cost for travel to and from the face-to-face sessions |
| Working within a local authority undertaking a school business management (SBM)-related role | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Working within an education action zone (EAZ) | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Working within a further education college | You will be invoiced for the programme (current charges: £3,100 for the national DSBM programme and £2,100 for local DSBM programme) |
| Not working within a school, but looking to work in a state-funded school | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Not working within a school, but looking to work in an independent or overseas school | You will be invoiced for the programme (current charges: £3,100 for the national DSBM programme and £2,100 for local DSBM programme) |
| All funded special schools (those that are independent still receive help or support from their local authorities) | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Overseas maintained schools, eg armed forces schools teaching the national curriculum | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Working within Excellence in Cities (EiC) | Funding will be paid for the participant |
| Unemployed | Funding will be paid for the participant if the participant intends to work in the maintained sector as an SBM. This is not a Department of Work and Pensions training scheme to improve the employment prospects of claimants; rather it is aimed at training SBMs for the maintained sector. The onus is placed on the applicant to ensure that embarking on this programme will not affect benefit claims |
If you are eligible for funding, the enrolment fee is paid directly to the National College. In any other case, the participant should investigate who will meet payment for the programme; for example the participant themselves or their employer.
Charging policy for independent and overseas schools
Independent and overseas participants will be informed of the precise payment arrangements soon after the closing date of the application round. However, payment in full will be requested prior to the participant's attending the first event, unless there are exceptional circumstances, which will be determined on an individual basis by the College.
Travel and subsistence
