International Leadership Learning Programme

The International Leadership Learning Programme (ILLP) offers a unique opportunity to reflect upon leadership in an international context. It builds on the successful International Placements for Headteachers (IPH) and is open to headteachers, other school leaders and children's centre leaders.
The programme is designed for those who wish to learn alongside other leaders from England and their counterparts overseas.
Key facts
- The programme includes an international study visit. Each group explores the culture and context of their destination, the educational system, school leadership and the agreed enquiry theme. Visits include presentations and workshops.
- You may apply for the programme individually or as part of an existing group, identifying your areas of interest. An appropriate destination is then found where you can explore powerful leadership practice, local challenges and solutions in your chosen enquiry focus.
- All participant groups include headteachers with over three years' experience and, ideally, headteachers should make up 50 per cent of each group so that aspiring leaders and their more senior colleagues are able to learn from each other.
Duration
Twelve months in duration, including three face-to-face workshops, supported by online activities, a mini conference for dissemination and a seven day international study visit.
Delivery method
Self-guided preparation and research, workshops, field work and learning forums.
