Frequently asked questions for NPQICL
1. Does my line manager have to support my application?
Yes, you should discuss your application with your line manager prior to applying. We will ask your line manager to confirm their support of your application as part of the application process.
2. Are there any pre-requisite programmes that I must complete prior to the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership (NPQICL)?
No. However, it should be noted that NPQICL is a Master's-level programme and there are academic entry requirements. If you do not hold a UK honours degree classified as 2.2 or above, you will have to undertake a 1,000-word graduate skills assessment as part of the application process. For more information, please contact npqicl@nationalcollege.org.uk.
3. Can I submit a hard copy application instead of an online application?
No, applications are only accepted online.
4. Can I apply to any provider or am I restricted to the delivery provider in my region?
There is a provider located in each government region and you should apply to the provider who has responsibility for your local authority. For local authority allocations, please see the providers page.
5. What happens if I miss the application deadline?
If you fail to submit your application or miss the deadline, we will not be able to consider your application and you will need to reapply the following year.
6. I have just completed and submitted the online application. Does this mean I am registered for the programme or will I have to undergo further assessment?
An application does not guarantee a place on the programme. Your regional provider will assess your application for eligibility and, during this process, they may contact you to clarify some details within your application.
7. When will I be informed of my application outcome?
We will let you know the outcome in June.
8. Do I have to attend all the sessions?
Yes, there is a strict 100 per cent attendance policy.
9. Are there any assessed activities or pieces of work?
You will need to complete two 6,000 word assignments and a centre-based assessment visit, against the National Standards for Leaders of Sure Start Children’s Centres. You must pass all 3 assessments to achieve the NPQICL award.
10. Is the programme mandatory for children’s centre leaders?
The programme is not mandatory. However, it has been evaluated as highly effective leadership development and is, therefore, strongly recommended.
11. Is the number of places on the programme restricted and, if so, is there a waiting list?
Places on the programme are currently limited to 400. Additional eligible applications will be placed on a waiting list and, if a place does not become available, your application will be given priority the following year.
