Research Associate Programme

The Research Associate Programme offers an opportunity for senior school leaders and leaders of children's centres to engage in enquiry and undertake research that will impact on practice.
Key facts
- opportunity for study and research that will impact upon practice
- a period of creative reflection as part of the Research Associates' network
- the opportunity to contribute to the National College’s portfolio of practitioner research and the Leadership Library
- further involvement in the work of the National College through contributing to seminars, conferences, online discussions and other activities
Duration
Usually three to four terms. However, the duration of the programme reflects individual needs and circumstances. It is recommended that research associates allocate around 30 days to undertaking their research project; although most associates also use some additional time to complete their research. Research associateships normally begin in the spring term.
Delivery method
The induction training sessions are delivered in-house by the National College and include input from the research associate programme manager, research consultants and former research associates. Associates then plan, implement and evaluate an action-focused inquiry with supervision and support from the programme manager. At the final writing stage there will be additional editorial and writing support from the programme manager or an editorial consultant.
Who can apply?
Headteachers, deputy and assistant headteachers and leaders of children centres. Exceptionally, those in other senior leadership roles may be considered.
