Benefits of the School Business Director Programme

The School Business Director Programme aims to support and further advance professional learning of participants by:

  • developing further their skills and knowledge base on the school business management competency framework and perform extended school business management roles
  • fulfilling system leader roles that involve providing strategic direction and managing resources in diverse and complex organisational settings
  • applying learning from research into other educational settings, commercial companies or international placements
  • demonstrating high levels of mastery of the principles and techniques of school business leadership and management
  • raising their professional profile and enhancing their contribution to the development of school business management locally, regionally and nationally

More specifically, the programme will enable participants to:

  • provide strategic direction and manage resources in diverse and complex organisational settings
  • make informed professional choices on the basis of a high level of professional knowledge and understanding related to specific aspects of school leadership and management
  • act as system leaders, fulfilling leadership roles beyond their individual school or organisational setting and contributing to broader system-wide developments
  • provide a range of consultancy services to other educational organisations addressing key issues of strategic direction and resource management
  • apply analytical and diagnostic skills to the strategic and operational needs of schools and local communities, and appraise options for development
  • manage their own professional learning as self-directed adult learners, developing the skills for independent professional enquiry, both in relation to relevant academic fields of study and research into workplace settings
  • demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on their own professional performance, possess accurate self-knowledge of their characteristics as leaders, and plan for further personal learning and improvement
  • evaluate the impact of their own learning and development and that of other staff on the efficiency and effectiveness of the workplace
  • contribute to the profession’s emerging knowledge of effective practice, and contribute to the further development of school business management as a recognised and valued profession, in particular, to publish research findings as conference papers or articles in relevant journals
