Programme details for the School Business Director Programme
The School Business Director Programme has been developed to achieve a high level of personalisation, giving participants the opportunity to plan their studies according to the development needs identified through an initial development centre.
Once this has been undertaken, a personalised development plan will be formulated that will determine whether the School Business Director Programme is suitable for you at this stage in your learning path. From Phase 2, the programme will be delivered via a true blended learning approach as detailed below:
- residential face-to-face events
- online interactive programme materials
- guided and independent research activities
- master classes
- problem-centred learning sets
- placements
- online communities
- work-based activities
- self study.
You will start the programme as a member of a small group of school business directors (SBDs) and will receive individual support from the expert coach assigned to you to support your study and development throughout the programme. You will take responsibility for your own learning path and will become involved in debate and study within the wider group.
Programme structure
| Phase | Details |
|---|---|
| Phase one | Assessment and development centre You will complete an online self-assessment and identify three or more raters to provide you with 360-degree feedback via the same tool. Once completed, you will then attend a development centre where a coach will work with you to identify professional learning needs and your suitability to continue with the School Business Director Programme. Specific development goals will then be negotiated with the coach following the event. |
| Phase two | Core study module : Extending professional perspectives This is a compulsory module. It focuses on leading and managing complex and diverse organisations such as advanced leadership theory and practice, emerging policy context, legal perspectives and regulatory requirements and governance. |
| Phase three | Self-directed study Within this phase, you choose three electives which will address your specific learning needs. This learning will continue to be monitored and support provided by your coach. |
| Phase four | Celebrating professionalism This phase provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your learning and share your development via the delivery of a reflective commentary with an accompanying report and presentation. Views of peers and/or stakeholders who have been directly involved in the learning journey will also contribute to this final outcome. |
